The leader of the Green Party of Quebec, Alex Tyrrell, spoke in Le Village this Thursday to introduce Hailey Roop, the Green Party’s official candidate for the 2022 provincial election in the riding of Sainte-Marie-Saint-Jacques. Together, they took a public stand on an issue that is important to the Green Party of Quebec: the rights of people in the LGBTQIA2+ community. The Green Party of Quebec believes that the Quebec government must step up its fight against bullying, homophobia and transphobia. This fight begins in the schools, but must continue throughout our society. The DMP is also proposing the implementation of gender-neutral bathrooms in all Quebec schools and government institutions.

During the speech, Alex Tyrrell and his candidate put forward the Green Party’s proposals on the rights of people from the LGBTQIA2+ community. In order to fight transphobia, the Green Party of Quebec proposes the implementation of gender-neutral bathrooms in all Quebec schools and government institutions. «We know that there is a lot of discrimination and a lot of hatred towards these people and the fact that they have to decide between one gender or the other just to go to the bathroom, it can cause a lot of distress. The Green Party of Quebec has always been a frontline ally of the LGBTQIA2+ community. We want to go beyond gender-neutral bathrooms to fight bullying, harassment, homophobia and transphobia,» said Alex Tyrrell in his speech.
