Back in Montreal after a week of research at the Forét Montmorency station of Laval University for a course in insect ecology. This course is part of the last year of my BAC in Environmental Sciences at Concordia University.

It was an excellent experience working with colleagues and professors extremely dedicated to biodiversity analysis, environmental protection and wildlife management.

It is exactly this type of course that is threatened by the austerity measures in education imposed by Mr. Couillard’s Liberal government. Already, Laval University is being forced to sell wood from the research forest to private industry in order to finance these operations. They have also decided to rent out dormitories associated with the research station to tourists. The impact of the latest cuts imposed by the Couillard administration remains to be determined.

The Green Party of Quebec will continue to fight for the protection of our environment and our public institutions. Thank you to all those who participated and especially Dr. Jean-Philippe Lessard and Julie Arrowsmith who organized the expedition. It will be a pleasure to continue working with each of you in the months to come 🙂

In solidarity,
