For a universal single-payer pharmaceutical program.
The current situation with prescription drugs in Quebec is unacceptable; while large companies are making record profits, Quebecers are being forced to pay more and more out of their own pockets. As a result, some Quebeckers, particularly seniors, are disadvantaged. Some people sometimes have to choose between buying their medication or food.
This phenomenon is not new. The current system does not meet the needs of the population, favours big business, and attacks low-income citizens and seniors in particular. It is high time to set up a system that favours us; the people, instead of big business.
The solution is simple. We have already had a public, universal and free health system for years. It is now time to propagate this concept to cover the cost of all prescription drugs, and a universal, public, single-payer pharmaceutical system will eliminate this false choice between food and drugs.
In Quebec, we have all the necessary means to take care of our people.
A universal single-payer system will allow us to save administrative costs and consolidate our purchasing power. We will also be entitled to a reduction in the fees sent to private insurers who are currently making huge profits at the expense of the people and seniors of Quebec.
Let us unite Quebec around progressive ideas,
